SPAWN in the RAIN! Ink Drawing. Todd McFarlane Productions.
This just happened! Meant to be a cool down sketch. Turned into this in about 20 minutes time (basically laying down large black areas and chipping away at them! SPAWN was the character that got me into comics art, so I'm sure I'm filled up with a lot of energy and inspiration for drawing the character. Would love a shot at drawing the comic some day!!

GAME OF THRONES - Peter Dinklage - Tyrion Lannister
When I got the job working on Game of Thrones I thought, "I can't wait to draw Peter Dinklage!!" because he has such a unique look and presence. Unfortunately my section of the Histories & Lore animation had *gasp* NO Peter Dinklage. I cried for days, weeks even! ;) I've got a few pieces I'd like to draw/paint of him if I ever get a chance. For now, there's a quick headshot. Hope you like it!

WITCHBLADE ... that kinda ended up looking like Kristen Stewart (Bella from Twilight)
Totally didn't plan that, but as I finished this quickie, I realized it kinda looked like Kristen Stewart who plays Bella in Twilight. I really liked the actress who played Witchblade in the Witchblade TV show, but ... this doesn't look like her.

Real-Time Speed Painting to get my hand warmed up for the day. I generally start with a face because that's what we connect with most in any image. I wasn't focused on a story or anything here, didn't have a character or emotion in mind, just blobbed down a silhouette and started rendering, then gave him an awesome green beard. All while my 3 year old was trying to climb me to watch. In fact, to be honest, he did most of this. ;)
The things I'm exploring here are contrast, edges (soft to hard for focus), and finding the important planes of the face. The only thing I would do different for a final piece would be to plan out what I was doing (of course) and continue refining until I got the lighting, skin texture, mood, and everything where it needed to be. But the process is basically this. Soft shadow, hard edge towards light source, planes of the face (or object), etc.

DEAD SPACE Inspired Concept Art
DEAD SPACE is one of the best games ever. Wish I had time to play the new ones! This isn't referenced or accurate or anything, just inspired by. Just a 15-minute warm-up.
First sketch after being blacked out through storm Nemo for a few days! Feels good to get my Cintiq fired up.
Really want to get THE ART OF DEAD SPACE ... or rather work on it and be in it. ;)

Right Brain Exercise - White on Black

Trying to wake up and get my right brain going while I battle these deadlines so I tried going white on black because it forces my brain to function different and think less about structure and more about balance. Super random stuff came out, totally unrelated to each other or anything on my mind, but looks kinda neat. I had no images or ideas in mind, just started sketching.

My wife, Renae De Liz, being cute, pretty, & stylish!
She was just walking around the house effortlessly looking cute, pretty, and stylish. Cool outfit on a pretty gal. I got inspired to draw. Also her hair is gorgeous. Her face is gorgeous too, but that's much more intimidating and time-intensive to attempt to capture in art. :)

Feeling like an artbot instead of an artist today. And in general my brain just isn't working. So in an attempt to kick myself out of that here's ... this ... couldn't even figure out how to represent Imagination so ya get a sleeping brain instead! :D Hopefully the fact that this is my first 2013 sketchbook sketch isn't a bad sign. :P

The Eye that Became the Face of Some Guy!!!

Just started doodling an eye for warm up, then blobbed some black paint around and got this face after about 10 minutes. Hey, dude. What's up? You look concerned. Is it because you also don't know who you are? I sure don't. What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?
Hmm... now tempted to paint a cat with a bloody human tongue. Perhaps it's 5am and I haven't slept yet? Could that be the cause of this ramble?

Run, Redneck, Run! - Woodcut style art!
Did some recent woodcut style illustrations for the film BRASS TEAPOT (coming soon to a theater near you!) and I'm starting to notice a bit of that influence creeping into my ink work. Kinda dig it. Think I'll expand on that. Feels natural. Also, that's a redneck running. Little sneak of a project I'm illustrating.
